- Favorites: This function will enable you to remember some words you would like to. Good for learning for example.
- Recents listing: There was a recents function built in, but you had to go back and forward with arrows, but you could not see the list. Now, you can, and you can even modify it.
- Accentuation insensitive search: Back in time when we started developing the dictionary the idea was, that you can write accentuated letters, so this is not an important thing. However, we realized, that most of the users does not even know how to enable international keyboards, or how to use them. So this is a must, and will now be supported
- In App Payment enabled Speech: BitKnights has licensed high quality text-to-speech solution from Loquendo, and this will be available to you for additional payment. We need to pay royalty, that's why you have to pay for it additionally. But you have to pay only once per language

Last touches on Android dictionaries
For the past few weeks, besides making nearly all of our dictionaries available on iPad, we have been working hard to finish the Android versions. Now that they’re almost ready, we are in final testing and preparation for the "launch" :). We don't have any experience in the Android market yet, so it will be a very interesting time for us. Since the whole mobile market is extremely volatile, there's always something new happening, which causes us to have "experience-ful" periods again and again, thanks to Apple and the revolutionary iPhone. Can you even remember what the mobile market was like before the iPhone? I can. It was boring and uneventful, just Nokia and their new phones with Symbian...
I think Apple really did something great to stimulate this market.
BitKnights' Dictionaries on iPad
YES!!! Finally completed!!! Our updated dictionaries are now available from the App Store, and yes, they are available for the iPad, too, with specific UI to maximize your usage experience.
We worked hard to get there and on the last day there seemed to be no hope. The problem was the application has In-App Purchase, to pay for the voices, and those couldn't be tested on the simulator. All in all it was rejected several times, until everything started to work fine.
Oh, and there's one more surprise for you. There is now a built-in translator using Google Translate. The speech works with translated texts, too.
At the moment only four of the dictionaries are out. Here are the links to get them.
At the moment only for of the dictionaries are out. Here are the links, go get it.

Apple and its rejection reasons...
Nobody likes when his/her application is rejected from the store. Normally there are really good reasons for that. It was the same in our case. There was always some kind of reason which was stated somewhere, and there was a description how to do it right. But not this time...
Now some of our dictionaries was rejected, with the following reason for the In-App Purchase:
"I have been advised by our app review team that the presentation of the attached dialogs are not in accordance with the standard implementation of In-app Purchase/ StoreKit."
The dialogs attached:

As you can see, one of them is an information dialog, where the user can choose whether he/she want's the application to check the earlier payment. This could be good when you have already purchased some feature. The user can choose no, however, when he chooses to enable it, an Apple dialog appear, asking for the password. It's the same process as for buying something.
I wouldn't feel that nervous, if the reason was not what it was. I mean "are not in accordance with the standard implementation". What is this? Is it stated anywhere, what the standard implementation is?! No, it's not. The only thing in the programming guide is:
"Once a transaction has been processed and removed from the queue, your application normally never sees it again. If your application supports nonconsumable or subscription products, it must provide the ability for users to restore these purchases on additional devices."
So as I can see now, the problem is, our app is able to do the restore. Fine.
And what now? I have emailed them, to help solving the problem as it was stated in their rejection mail. But to be honest, I don't really think they will answer in 5 days. I think it would be more. Until that time, I can't really do nothing, except trying to find another solution, which "is in accordance with the standard implementation".

Learning languages: Vocabulary Trainer

What makes this tool very useful is it's database. We have analysed a big pack of text from different sources, and have collected the most important words used in the everyday language. This big bunch of words is the base of this application.
When studying languages there's another important thing. You need to learn the pronunciation, which could be very hard in some cases/languages. So we have licensed high quality TTS engine from Loquendo, and made it available in Vocabulary Trainer. How does it sound? :)
Initially Vocabulary Trainer will be available in four version: Spanish English, German English, French English, Italian English. We'll let you know on Twitter when it passes Apple review.
Retrospective and new challenges in the new year
The last year was very exciting for BitKnights - as I'm sure is for all newly founded company. There was a lot of happening, beginning with foundation and our first steps in the world of iPhone, continuing with some middle-sized success in the field of Dictionaries and Altitude measurement.
I think we began like most of the iPhone development teams. We tried ourselves and AppStore, and the users liked our applications, so we moved forward. The only thing missing is the "big bumm" of one of the applications :).
So what are the new challenges to the new year. Well, there are some.
GPS Box available on AppStore
Welcome on our new homepage!
At last our new homepage has finished and is live. There are several worth-mentioning-things:
- It has a new design, which looks a lot better than the old one
- The blog is integrated
- Some applications have video, which demonstrates the use and capabilities.
- There are direct links to AppStore
There is a poll on the left, where you can vote, how do you like our homepage. Please let us know, this will help us improve it.
BitKnights Application updates are coming

After a lot of development work and testing all the dictionary and altimeter softwares was uploaded to Apple and are waiting for review. Hopefully they will be out in the next 2 weeks or even earlier.
The dictionary software changed a lot. It has improved user interface and better handling. It supports copying of words on the detail view on iPhone OS 3.0 or above. Furthermore the bugs which made it hang
sometimes was fixed. The quick search was further optimized, so it's now even quicker.
You can see some pictures about, hope you all will like it.
Our other software, the Altimeter was also updated. It now shows more information to the users about the GPS state and signal, so you will always know, if you don't have GPS signal.
